Protein isn’t just for bench-pressing muscle men that guzzle it by the gallon – women who train are beginning to realise the health benefits and hidden power of protein too.
‘There’s a huge trend for strength training at gyms as women strive for fit, healthy bodies,’ says Corinna Field, personal trainer at No.1 Fitness. The power of protein, a nutrient made up of amino acids – the building blocks for muscle growth – is becoming widely recognised in the gym bunny circuit.
‘Lifting weight simply helps you shape up, reduce body fat, increase muscle mass, strengthen bones, boost metabolism and aid weight loss – an all-round great result – and protein can help with this,’ says Field. So make this Shrove Tuesday a double-edged sword with an added protein health-boost.
It is very easy to make these protein pancakes; simply add protein powder to this recipe. Why not try Maxinutrition’s Promax, Promax Lean or Cyclone products?
Almond butter and banana pancakes
Makes around 5-6 little pancakes (1 hungry person/2 people happy to share)
1 egg
1 mashed banana
1 tbsp almond butter
50g Maxinutrition Promax Lean, banana flavour
½ tsp baking powder
2 tbsp yoghurt, to serve
Fresh berries, to serve
1 Mix all the ingredients together into a batter (it will be a little lumpy because of the banana).
2 Heat a frying pan over a medium heat, and add a little butter or oil.
3 Spoon dollops of the mixture into the pan, and fry until golden underneath and a little puffed up before flipping.
4 Take the pancakes out the pan when the other side is golden, too (you may have to cook them in a couple of batches depending how big your pan is).
5 Serve with some yoghurt and fresh berries on top for the perfect healthy brunch.
