Upgrade your hair
The festive season is here! And, at this time of year, many people are digging out their glittery outfits and thinking about how to get party-perfect hair.
If you’re one of the 17 per cent of women in the UK experiencing hair loss, though, it can be emotionally troubling. Maybe your locks have been shedding and require unfamiliar styling, or perhaps you had lustrous hair during pregnancy and it has started to fall out a few months after giving birth.
It’s important to realise, though, whatever your reasons for hair loss or thinning, you are not alone in feeling self-conscious.
Around 39 per cent of women experiencing hair loss found it impacted their confidence, with a staggering 34 per cent feeling less attractive and the same number not being confident enough to discuss it with friends.*
Bring hair back to life
Award-winning hair stylist and colourist Karine Jackson gives her top tips on how to restore your locks to their full glory.
1 Talk to your hair stylist about your concerns
If you feel embarrassed, insist you’re in a quiet part of the salon and not chatting through the mirror in earshot of other clients. Remember, they talk to lots of clients about hair loss and thinning – and will have professional advice.
2 Try Viviscal
Viviscal is the UK’s most clinically researched hair supplement brand and over the years I’ve been recommending it, I’ve seen some amazing results – clients start to see a real difference between three to six months of taking the supplements.** It encourages hair growth by supporting follicles from within and contains AminoMarC – a rich marine protein complex, blended with other naturally derived ingredients. It also has nutrients zinc and biotin, which contribute to the maintenance of healthy hair by nourishing from within.
3 Create depth and volume with a cut and colour
With fine hair, get a blunt cut and avoid layers as they can look wispy. With lighter hair, go for lowlights, two shades darker. With darker hair, go for highlights. The contrast makes hair appear thicker and fuller.
4 Always get a professional colour
The salon is a controlled environment and your stylist will correctly apply the appropriate shade and strength to ensure there is no overlapping, which can cause hair breakage. Always ask for a consultation where the suitability of colour will be discussed as well as your skin tone, lifestyle and after care.
